Privacy
Privacy: When patients use insurance, therapists must attach a diagnosis to release insurance benefits. This diagnosis then becomes part of the patient’s permanent medical record. For patients who wish to maintain their privacy, and are uncomfortable with the number of people who have access to their medical record, they may opt to pay. Paying out of pocket means that therapists are not required to assign a mental health diagnosis or share medical information with anyone.

The 5 situations where clinician’s share information:
- In the event Terrapin is presented with a Subpoena or official court order
- To bill insurance
- If client signs a release of information granting communication
- Client cases may be discussed without identifiers in clinical supervision in the Terrapin office. This is a best practice occurrence and allows for clinicians to receive specific clinical guidance in supervision.
- All clinicians are mandated reporters and need to notify The Department of Children and Families if abuse, neglect or other harm is suspected.

Insurance companies vary in terms of which mental health conditions they cover. That means some insurance policies may not cover certain mental health disorders.
Cancellation Policy
Your session is reserved for you. In the event that you will be unable to keep an appointment, please notify us at least 48 hours in advance, so that someone else may utilize this time. In the absence of your notification, you will be required to pay the full cost of the missed session.
